Clariant has created a few new masterbatches with the intent to improve the process efficiency and performance. They recently created a brand new plant that costs them over 19 million dollars and is equipped with 16 production lines. Clariant targets to have the fastest growth in the emerging Asian markets, specifically in automotives, packaging and construction.

Sabic Basic Industries Corp. finally made ground on its planned 100 million dollar facility in China on April 6. This center will be home to more than 200 research scientists. The company also states that it will be built with the highest green standards. Sabic hopes that this new facility will help them expand their company for the future.

London recycling company sees 2012 Olympic games as a Mega Pick. Closed Loop Recycling plastic recycling facility is only 5 miles from the Olympic site. Chris Dow sees this as an opportunity to put recycling on the world stage. This could be the first “green” Olympic games and put the recycling industry at the forefront of environmental consciousness. Companies like Coca-Cola already have plans in place to recycle all of their plastic containers. It is also hoped that this will trigger a larger participation of recycling in the United Kingdom.

In chemicals news French chemicals Arkema SA announced it is selling one of it’s divisions that makes tin stabilizers used in PVC pipe. Details of the deal have not been released, but is expected to close soon. This continues sell off of divisions for Arkema. They have announced that they will concentrate on their core business of industrial chemicals and performance products. The Valence group is an adviser on the deal.
